The New Brunswick Fire Fighters Curling Assocation was formed in 1967, under the direction of the Canadian Fire Fighters Curling Assocation. This being our 42nd, makes us the longest annual running sporting event in New Brunswick.

The goal of this Assocation is to promote fellowship of all New Brunswick Fire Fighters through the median of the sport of curling. Each year all of New Brunswick's Fire Fighters are invited to participate in this annual event which is held in a different location throughout the Province.

The 2009 Provincial Championship was held in Grand Falls, New Brunswick, January 22th, 23th, 24th and 25 th. At the Grand Falls Curling Club

Congratulations to Fredericton Firefighters who won the 2009 Provincial Firefighters Curling championship, they will represent the Province of New Brunswick at the Canadian Fire Fighters Curling Championship, Which will be held in Charlottetown Prince Edward Island from March 27th to April 4th.

2009 will represent the 50th consecutive year that Canadian Firefighters have convened to showcase Firefighters Hydrant Trophy, supremacy of firefighters curling in Canada. This is the only competition across our nation that gathers firefighters each year in a unique atmosphere of fellowship and competition.

The event is the second oldest national curling championship in Canada, behind the Brier. Its level of competition, calibre of curling and organization is recognized by our affiliate association the Canadian Curling Association of Canada. Competitors include World Champions Ed Werenich (Ont), Neil Harrison (Ont), Gary Richards (BC); 1997 World Police and Fire Gold Medal Winner and former Hydrant Champion Jim Henderson (Alta); Brier participants Rod Montgomery (Sask), Steve Moss (NWT), Bruce Lohnes (NS), Dale Ness (Que), Joe Vautour (NB) and the list goes on.

Hydrant Trophy
The Hydrant Trophy is emblematic of supremacy of firefighters curling in Canada. It is presented annually to the winners of our proud event. This trophy was manufactured at Terminal City Iron Works Ltd. Vancouver, British Columbia in 1987 for Labatt's who were the national sponsors at that time. Labatt ceased sponsorship in 1992. The trophy was returned to Terminal City in March 1993 for maintenance and removal of the origional sponsors' (Labatt) name. The trophy was again returned to Terminal City in August 1999 for repainting and remounting. It is one of a kind. On behalf of the Canadian Firefighters Curling Association and its membership, we sincerely would like to thank Terminal City Iron Works and its staff for the Hydrant and their support of firefighters curling.

National Sponsorship
The CFFCA has been without a national sponsor since 1992. Our national championship is the only event in Canada in which firefighters gather each year from every territory and province to compete for a national title. This is the second oldest national consecutive curling championship in Canada behind the Brier as recognized by the CCA. Its level of competition and caliber of curling rivals that of the Brier as each year past World Champions and Brier participants compete for the Hydrant Trophy, supremacy of firefighters curling in Canada. As quoted by Neil Houston, Director of Championship Services for the CCA, "They're a Canadian championship that has been around for many world championships and have (purple) hearts. I've seen it and they're all well-run events, so it's another positive slant for curling". If anyone is interested in sponsoring this event, please contact our organization through the office of
